No matter what device or operating system you use. Everyone is aware of Apple’s virtual assistant Siri and her capabilities. Even though Siri is a virtual assistant and uses AI technology, the voice behind Siri is not Produced or made by a program. Siri is voiced by Susan Bennett, Susan is a well-respected and credible voice-over actress who has worked with companies like McDonald’s, Cartoon Network, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, and Papa John’s before she accidentally became the original voice of Siri.
The story of how Susan became a voice that everyone now recognizes, intrigues me. I hope it will Intrigue readers too.
Susan told the LA Times, “The original recordings for the unknown project that became Siri took place on July 2005 for a text-to-speech company. It was four hours a day, weekdays, for the entire month. The only thing I knew at the time was that my voice would be used in phone systems.”
Years later, Susan was not notified by Apple that she was the voice of Siri. In an interview with Cracked.com, Susan recalled the time she realized she was Siri saying, “ I didn’t know it was the Siri gig; I didn’t realize anyone was auditioning me for it. I found out I was Siri when Siri launched. A fellow voice actor emailed me and said, ‘We’re playing around with this new iPhone; isn’t this you?’ And I was just like, ‘What?'”
This is only the beginning of some interesting background information about every day, relatively unknown people becoming the voices of AI. Stay tuned and keep following http://carolusx.com/ for updates and similar articles.
